This is one of the biggest cupcake schedules I've seen the flyers play out of the gate and we're 4-9-1. I can't watch these games anymore they are so brutally bad.

The Carolina game was really disheartening, with the Flyers only managing one goal against a career minor leaguer who came into the game 0-6. Sadly, I found myself watching NBCSN's 500th re-run of The Cold War on Ice, for stretches of the game. To be fair, the documentary of the '72 Summit Series is brilliant and massively entertaining (unlike a certain contemporary Orange and Black hockey team).

This team isnt even fun to watch. At least if we were losing in a track meet, I could keep up my interest.. but this... ugh.

All we do is face team's backup goalies and still can't score.

The most aggravating thing is that they have been, with the exception of the Caps game, in every single game. They have gone into the third period, in most games, either tied or down by 1.

If they were simply getting the doors blown off every night, it'd be different.

I really can't wait till it's summer and the dead wood infesting this team can be sent packing.

Nothing worse than being bad and boring. An empty arena would send a message loud and clear to Ownership.

This is the first season that I began wearing my "lucky" flyers socks for game days.... I'm sorry everyone, these socks are purely evil.

i think this is the perception that is keeping paul holmgren employed and them from doing anything to improve the team. "wow, look how close we are...."
not sure i agree with that perception but i don't think this team is going to magically turn it on an have it stay on. i think b schenn and couturier should be playing in adirondak and gaining confidence (as laughton is doing in junior). i can't imagine this being good for young players to endure and they are not responding, thus far, to the adversity. it would be tough to do now, as it would appear to be a demotion and possibly have an even more detrimental impact. the team is in a tough spot in so many ways

I think it's the perception that's keeping him from making a trade. I think Holmgren stays as GM for the season, regardless of finish.

I disagree with Schenn and Couturier going to the AHL to gain confidence. They have to play through it. Getting sent down could hurt their confidence more than staying and toughing it out.

Also, as of 5 games ago, Couturier is no longer exempt from waivers. So if he gets sent down, he'd have to clear waivers. Schenn has 8 games left before he's has to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL. That's per capgeek's waivers calculator

The flyers are lucky the division is weak. It gives them an opportunity to figure it out but sooner or later other teams will get their acts together and it will be tough. I want to see the G that shifts the momentum of a game again

I will miss a lot of tonight's game, and with the way they have been playing... boring losing hockey, I am not entirely sad. I have no idea what the answers are anymore. I try to hang my hat on the fact that it must be a lack of confidence.. Mason has been awesome and we can't help the poor guy out at all.

Its bad enough that they are losing. What makes it worse is that they play with no heart and are mind numbingly boring to watch as well. I'm a diehard, so I will be watching tonight, but at this point, my expectations are really low.

i think they were both playing well there. but followed by joining whatever you want to call last year's nhl team was the beginning of what we're seeing now, in my opinion. who knows what would have happened if they had been allowed to stay there and mature; but i think the team thought they were close (the team and the players) and wanted them to contribute to what they thought was a chance in a short season to make a run at the cup. i think we now see how far from reality that perception of the team is, which once again calls into question the ability of the gm to assess properly the moves that need to be made

Well Devils fans are use to boring hockey and an empty arena. The thing is from 1995-2003 they parlayed those countless 1-0, and 2-1 wins into 3 Stanley Cups.

I think what is preventing a trade is that not many GMs are looking to make significant deals this early in the season, and the ones that are most likely are trying to pull off a steal since they see the Flyers as desperate. If that is the case and they keep losing, it would be better to just move whoever you can at the deadline when it's the contending clubs that are now under pressure to make moves.

i agree. i edited my post to address this. i kind of meant that maybe they should have been there all along getting better and that mgmt miscalculated the readiness of the team to contend (and poss the players readiness for the nhl?) when they were brought up

And then watch as they bring in more dead wood to immediately replace it?

Gotta love buying out Bryz and Briere and immediately dumping that money in one player that can't stay healthy, and another that has been mostly invisible (except for when he turns the puck over in OT as last man back).

There's a lot of teams looking to make a big deal. Edmonton, Winnipeg and other struggling teams have been very active according to rumors. Even good teams like LA are looking for pieces...the problem is, everyone wants top value for their guys right now.
